Clockwork is an enigma wrapped in mystery. His origins are unknown, and his motives are always unclear. As the Master of Time, it is his duty to not only observe the timeline, but all of its changes and courses and alternate paths. When the Observants decide that something must be done to prevent disaster, they go to Clockwork to somehow fix it.

For Clockwork, time never stands still. It goes backwards and forwards, and so does he; his appearance is constantly fluctuating from infant to elderly. His vast understanding of the way time moves is beyond Danny, and any other living thing. His methods never seem to make sense, but in the end, everything turns out right, with a lesson learned.
