Additional Information
The Specter Deflector is one of the Gadget Expert's favorite devices. For such a simple concept, it's a vastly useful device that can serve in multiple roles. The basic concept is simple- it repels and apparently shocks any ghost that comes in contact with the device or the person wearing it when it's active. But this is put to a wide range of uses in the show, perhaps moreso than any other device. It's a defensive item- it repels ghosts. It's an offensive item- the person wearing the belt can dish plenty of damage to ghosts in close-quarters combat with it, demonstrated by Maddie in Maternal Instinct and by Sam in Memory Blank. And most usefully, it can severely hamper, stun, or weaken a ghost who ends up wearing it, as demonstrated on Vlad in Maternal Instinct and in Kindred Spirits.
As to why the Gadget Expert claims this to be the single most continuity-breaking device in the series, consider this: In Maternal Instinct, Vlad runs off wearing it at the end of the episode, and it's unlikely he would just up and return it. Jack remarks in the same episode that he had to gut the FentonWorks ghost-shield to make it, which indicates that either it was a highly experimental device or that it is not a simple matter to build a new one. Danny makes Sam wear it in Memory Blank a few episodes later- where did it come from? Danny also obtains one sometime in the future timeline from The Ultimate Enemy that he uses in the present against his evil future self. That one got broken. The device makes an encore appearance in giving Vlad grief in Kindred Spirits, when Sam grabs it from the Fentons' lab. And THEN in Girls Night Out, Sam and Tucker are shown wearing them and claiming them to be part of the "standard" equipment for "Team Phantom." Did Jack simply build new ones, or is this merely a growing plot hole?
