At the harbor Danny is fighting with a ghost called the Box Ghost. He calls for his friends to come help him out and Tucker bursts into the room with the Fenton thermos capturing the Box Ghost. Tucker then accidentally drops the thermos on the "Release" button and all the ghosts that were captured in it are let loose. Another ghost is watching this saying that Danny would make a fine addition to his "collection".

At school Danny finds out that he got a 'D' on his biology test. He is worried on what his parents might say about his grade, but Sam says he can push his grade up by doing an extra assignment on the purple-back gorrila that is an extremely rare species. As they leave the room the ghost that was spying on them before comes in. His name is Skulker and he is the ghost world's greates predator, at least so he claims. At the Amity Park Zoo the trio have been looking at the purple-back gorilla for 6 hours without finding any information. Danny and Tucker are tired and fall asleep. Skulker manages to make his way there as well, but is interrupted when the gorrila starts attacking him. He crashes into the room Danny and Tucker are in. Sampson (the gorilla) beats skulker just as Danny and Tucker wake up and Danny puts Sampson back into his cage.

Back home Danny's ghost sense goes off when he is outside his bedroom. He opens the door and Skulker is in there. He captures Danny in a net but Danny turns into ghost mode and phases out. While they are fighting the noise makes his parents suspicous and Sam and Tucker go down to the lab to help Danny out. Skulker sees Tucker's PDA and installs it into his suit which upgrades all his weapons. Just as he was about to shoot at Danny, the PDA alarm goes off say that he needs to fly to the library to get books on the eating habits of the purple-back gorilla. Because his suit is connected to the PDA he has no choice but to obey the command.

At school Danny is cornered again by Skulker, but the PDA rings again saying to fly to the newspaper stand and get a magazine with an article on purple-back gorillas. Danny figures out that the schedules on Tucker's PDA must be affecting Skulker's actions and so they are able to predict where and when Skulker will be next thanks to Tucker's second PDA which has the exact same schedule in it. At the zoo Skulker is watching the purple-back gorilla who is in fact Sam and Tucker in disguise. Using his PDA Tucker is able to send new schedule commands to Skulker's PDA which makes him do what they want him to do. Danny "asks" Sampson for help and the gorilla completly beats Skulker up and Skulker's true form is revealed. He is actually a tiny little ghost and is then captured into the Fenton Thermos. Danny then finds out that Sampson is actually a female not a male and he hands that in as his extra assignment. However, this only puts his grade up to a C. Feeling frustrated he takes out his anger on fighting the Box Ghost who appears in the classroom at the opportune moment.
